We have implemented a thorough skin testing process to guarantee a successful and risk-free hair colouring experience.

Skin testing is an integral part of our hair colouring services. It involves a simple yet vital procedure that allows us to assess the compatibility of the hair dye or colour products with your skin. The primary purpose of this testing is to identify potential adverse reactions, ensuring that the hair colour application is safe and suitable for you.

Before your appointment, our experienced team will schedule a complimentary consultation with you. During this consultation, we will discuss your desired hair colour, evaluate your current hair health, and consider your skin tone and overall appearance. Our skilled colourists will provide expert advice and suggest suitable colours to enhance natural beauty.

We will proceed with the skin testing once we have determined the appropriate hair colour options. The procedure is quick, painless, and conducted in a controlled environment. We will gently apply a small amount of the hair dye or colour product behind your ear or on the inside of your elbow—areas known for being highly sensitive and reactive to potential skin irritants. We'll then allow the product to develop for the specified duration.

This skin testing aims to observe any adverse reactions such as redness, itchiness, or inflammation. Our trained professionals will closely monitor your skin's response to the hair dye or colour product during this time. We understand that everyone has different sensitivities, so it's crucial to conduct this patch test, even if you've used similar products without issue.

Once the specified time for the skin test has passed, our colourists will examine the area for any signs of discomfort or adverse reactions. If your skin has responded positively, showing no signs of irritation, we can be confident that your chosen hair colour will suit you. In the rare event of adverse reactions, we will explore alternative options or adjust our formulation to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Every client who has not had colour or a skin test at Rusa for six months

A skin test may also be necessary following health and safety questions during a consultation.

Ive have been colouring my hair for years. Why do I need a test?

Exposure to hair colourants over time triggers sensitivity and reactions to hair colourants. It is also possible to suddenly become allergic or sensitive to hair colour if exposed to triggers such as Henna, Tattooing and semi-permanent makeup. Therefore we must keep monitoring for your safety. 

Rusa Hair Salon reserves the right to change the skin test and AAT policies in line with the manufacturer's guidelines or change of insurance policy.

Minors

We consider anyone under the age of 16 to be a minor. We do not allow any colour services on a child.

For your first AAT/skin test with Rusa Salon or if it is six months since your last skin test or colour service; 

Visit the salon at least 48 hours before your appointment. 

Please wear loose clothing.

The colour must be left on for 48 hours. Please get in touch with us if you experience any signs of irritation, reddening, swelling, inflammation or itching.

If you develop symptoms that make you feel unwell, contact a medical professional immediately.

When you attend the salon, we will observe the test site and ask you some further questions.

Future colour services may not require a skin test subject to screening questions we may ask you during your consultation or before your appointment. 

Our team has been trained to test and screen for suitability for colour services.
